Marines have Landed in Berkeley
and opened a Military Recruiting Station!
We are shocked and saddened to inform you that the Marines have opened an Officer Recruiting Station in Berkeley, just blocks from Berkeley High School, UCB, and Berkeley City College.
And we are also even more determined to SHUT DOWN this recruiting station! And we need your help!
We will have a counter-recruitment presence EVERY WEDNESDAY from 7:30a.m. until 4:30p.m. PLEASE sign up for a 2 hour shift, all day, or any part of the day!
Our plans are many-fold:
- to have a daily presence (Download Flyer in MS Word format) in front of and inside the recruiting station
- to ask the Berkeley City Council on Oct 23rd to enforce all our anti-war resolutions and make us a "military-free" zone by shutting down this station
- to ask the landlord to terminate their lease (Download Petition asking Marines to leave in MS Word format)
- to call every day, 510-705-8060 several times a day & ask them nicely to SHUT DOWN! Just let them know we are a military-free town and to please respect the people of Berkeley and LEAVE
- to circulate a petition (Download Petition asking Marines to leave in MS Word format) for Berkeley residents to sign asking them to leave
The recruiting station is open Monday thru Friday from 8-4 daily at 64 Shattuck Square, just south of University & a few blocks from downtown Berkeley BART. We are hoping you and your organization will choose one day to be responsible for all shifts!
We have designated five 2 hours shifts beginning at 7:30a.m. and ending at 4:30p.m.
