Sister Solidarity Action Against the Drones
MRS, Monday July 13th 7:30am

Help take action against the Drones and stand in solidarity with the women who are now in Nevada at Creech AFB protesting these horrific, anti-human assassins. Gather 7:30am in front of the MRS, 64 Shattuck Square, Berkeley.

This MRS recruits especially pilots, teaching them to kill from the air, whether by manned bombers or unmanned drones. We MUST take action! Bring public awareness to these ‘new’ computer automated killing machines that kill randomly around the world without risking U.S. lives.

30,000 Hot Pink Bikes – not soldiers – to Afghanistan: A Woman-to-Woman, Girl-to-Girl Endeavor

We intend to send 30,00 bikes to Afghanistan, NOT troops! We want to make this a multi-purpose campaign and inspiring movement on many levels.

  1. involving as many communities as possible: getting bikes donated by individuals; classrooms; bike organizations, companies, businesses; and other corporations

  2. taking the donated bikes to middle school classrooms and having youth paint & decorate the bikes hot pink, teach them how to write "peace", etc., in Pashto and Dari, and include a geography/history/cultural lesson as well – maybe send a pen pal letter with the bike!

  3. riding hot pink bikes in burkas to Washington D.C. and/or congress peoples' homes to make clear the message BIKES not BOMBS to Afghanistan

  4. challenging the biker community who has been very AWOL since last spring to send 30,000 Harleys to Afghanistan!

Come to our first organizing meeting Monday, February 23, 6:00pm at Mudraker's Café, 2801 Telegraph Ave., Berkeley or call 510-540-7007 to get involved.

Opportunities for civil disobedience, non-violent action, all who are able to follow women's lead are welcome and needed! Click here to download activist list sign-up (MS Excel doc)

It is with the deepest, heart-wrenching grief and utmost fury, we are witnessing this new Obama administration in cahoots with our Congress acting together not only to perpetuate the wars that Bush began, but to escalate those wars.

Last Thursday, May 14th the House voted to give Obama $92 BILLION MORE dollars of our money, the current War Supplemental (on top of the billions already allocated), to escalate wars against Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Only 60 of 435 Congress people voted no, including our most awesome Barbara Lee.

This Thursday, May 21st, the Senate voted 86-3 for the $92 BILLION dollar War Supplemental.

This in a time – although NO time would be right – when so many of us are losing our homes, jobs, health care, and too many our lives; let alone the fact that war is just plain crazy horrific gargantuan terror destroying life and our planet.

We MUST act together. PLEASE transform your anger, your disappointment, your pain into action.

TOGETHER WE WILL END WAR NOW

SAD VOTER PINK Tea Party

After the 2004 election, we had the "Mad Voter Pink Tea Party"; after the 2006 election we had the "Glad Voter Pink Tea Party".

Now after Obama's first 100 days, we are forced to hold the "Sad Voter Pink Tea Party", Sunday, June 28th 6:00pm at Redwood Gardens, Berkeley.

We will begin with a potluck so bring your favorite dish, dessert, drink to share! We have invited Barbara Lee, Cynthia McKinney, Helen Caldicott and other fierce women to join us. Testimonies, Song, Strategies, Dance, Spoken Word!

We intend to leave with goals for changing Obama's war directions!

Watch for details. Or call 510-540-7007 to participate!

To DRONE or NOT To Drone!

This anti-human use of drones to destroy people, places, and the environment is probably the most urgent military crime we need to face today.

Join our ELIMINATE DRONES campaign! We caravan to Creech AFB outside of Las Vegas, Nevada and set up a CodePINK Women's Encampment to "GROUND DRONES" from July 2nd -14th. We will do direct actions (both on the trip down and once we get there), engage in dialogue with soldiers and base employees, lobby Senator Reid, banner in Las Vegas, and more.

To get on the NO DRONES list serve, just send an email to info@bayareacodepink.org

Watch for details. Or call 510-540-7007 to participate!

100th Anniversary IWD International Women's Day Celebration
March, and Pot Luck: Honoring Women from Afghanistan

We are planning a Celebration, March, and Pot Luck for this 100th anniversary of International Women's Day, Sunday March 8th, 2009.

We will start the day with a March across the Golden Gate Bridge at noon; then we have scheduled a Potluck and Program at Redwood Gardens, 2951 Derby St, in Berkeley from 4-8pm.

Our focus continues to be END WAR NOW - and this International Women's Day, we are focusing on the women of Afghanistan and the U.S. threat to send more of our troops to occupy that country. One of our overriding goals: "Yes We CAN Help Obama CHANGE Direction: from Iraq to the U.S.A., NOT Afghanistan."

We'd like the program Sunday afternoon to be full of information and sharing about Afghanistan and her people, as well as our government's call to war. And conclude with actions for changing direction.

Thus far on the program, we have a short documentary of IWD Beijing by Margot Smith, music and dance by Carrie Gerendasy, Shazam, Becky Lyman, and Evelie Delfino Såles Posch; and presentations about Afghanistan, RAWA, and Malalai Joya by Neda Raheen, Janet Weil, and Marie Bravo.

We especially stand in solidarity this IWD with RAWA (Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan), who proclaim the following for March 8th:

  • For us, the 8th March means the day to express horrifying miseries and the burning pains our women are passing through and the exposure of the criminals responsible for this catastrophe.

  • For us, the 8th March means the day to covenant upon the blood of the martyred women who lost their lives for the cause of freedom, women's rights and human dignity.

  • For us the 8th March means the day of solidarity and standing up against fundamentalism of any kind either Jehadi or Taliban.

We are also planning to launch our "30,000 Hot Pink Bikes - not Soldiers - to Afghanistan: a Woman-to-Woman, Girl-to-Girl" Endeavor on International Women's Day.

And we invite everyone to bring a dish to share – something from your (great) grandmother's cuisine! Call 510-540-7007 ASAP or email info bayareacodepink.org

As always, we NEED your HELP!
  1. Are you willing to cook a dish from your (great) grandmother's cuisine to share?

Women's Week Leading Up To Mothers' Day!

From Monday, May 5th until Friday May 9th, as a build-up to reclaiming the Mothers Day of Julia Ward Howe's Proclamation and as a protest against the $178 Billion more dollars proposed to continue funding the occupation of Iraq, we are planning a week of women-focused daily protests at the MRS! Such as:

  • Monday, May 5th: Grandmothers Day of Action: we call on Grandmothers to volunteer to be recruited, instead of our youth

  • Tuesday, May 6th: Mothers Day of Action: we Mothers bewail the loss of all our children, and as Mama Bears, we do not allow recruiters to take our youth

  • Wednesday, May 7th: Daughters Day of Action: we call on daughters to do a wailing, mourning the loss of our fathers, the toll on the humanity of our fathers, the sorrow and pain of our fathers who have paid the price for destroying and/or harming human beings.

Feb 11th Monday 7:00pm until 7:00pm Tuesday February 12th ,
Maudelle Shirek City Hall, 2134 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Berkeley.

The right has put out the call to invade our city 5:00a.m. on Tuesday morning Feb 12th.

We are putting out the call for all peace-loving people to come to our Emergency 24-hour Peace-In Vigil in front of Old City Hall. Sign up – let us know we can count on you to BE THERE! For 24 hours or 2!!

http://volunteerforchange.org/e/1181?refcode=o23

This fight is about war and ending war. This is about recruiting our youth to be the fodder of war. It is not about the marines. It is not about being anti-American. It is not about rights, freedom, or apple pie.

It IS about this occupation of Iraq: about the 1.2 million dead Iraqis, 3950 dead U.S. soldiers, trillions of dollars of our tax payer money, the attack on our civil rights and constitution, torture, rape, wounded and neglected soldiers, suicide, depleted uranium.

It is about recruiting youth to be the occupying forces Iraq.

Women say ENOUGH! Basta! The People of Berkeley say ENOUGH! Basta!

We MUST take back the language from the right: END WAR NOW! We MUST take back the messaging. We must stand up for Peace.

Come to our 24-hour Peace-In. Bring your tent, sleeping bag, all your peace and anti-war banners, props, photos, hot pink fabric. Or just BE THERE!

7:00pm Monday February 11th until 7:00pm Tuesday February 12th , Maudelle Shirek City Hall, 2134 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Berkeley.

Remember: please sign up http://volunteerforchange.org/e/1181?refcode=o23

Code HOT PINK Alert: Pink Slip Squad

We are putting out the notice: Code HOT PINK Alert - our "first responders" Pink Slip Squad - GET READY to organize an immediate, coordinated & powerful response to further escalations of war:

• US attack on Iran...
• 50,000 more troops to Iraq...

Coordinated actions at the Federal Buildings will heighten visibility and public awareness, plus bring us together at symbols of the government that is conducting an illegal war based on lies, without the consent of the governed!

CodePINK is a women initiated & women led grassroots peace and social justice movement that seeks positive social change through proactive, creative protest and non-violent direct action.

CodePINK was started in direct response to the Bush administration's color-coded security alerts that are based on fear. CodePINK is a determined call for women & our supporters to "wage peace & justice" in our lives, our communities, our country, & around the world. We stand up to the Bush administration's attempt to attack not only our civil rights, but almost every social service & economic program for women, for children, for the poor, the unemployed, the elderly, the disabled in our country.

CodePINK, often aligning with other organizations, holds vigils for peace; marches against the war & occupation; speaks out against corporate - as in Halliburton, Bechtel - greed & profiteering; stands in solidarity with the women in Juarez, in Iraq, at Threemile Canyon Farms; and embarks on peace & occupation watch missions to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Bay Area CodePINK has worked tirelessly locally and nationally to defeat the Bush agenda, defend our democracy, and protect our civil rights. We also participate in several campaigns as Anti-Hummer and Anti-War Toy Campaigns. We hold activist training camps, table events, and do presentations & speakings for various institutions, organizations, groups and neighborhoods. We participate in marches, protest actions and community celebrations.

We meet weekly on Wednesdays: the 2nd Wednesday from 7-9 at Global Exchange, 16th & Mission across from the 16th Street BART; the 1st, 3rd & 4th Wednesdays from 7-9 at Eastbay CodePINK (and It's Her Business), 1248 Solano Ave, Albany. Meetings are where actions & direction are discussed and decided upon; report backs are given about past actions; business is taken care of.

We vigil every Wednesday evening, the Wednesday Women Peace Vigils, from 5:15 to 6:15pm Vigil locations may change from week to week so call first! In Oakland, we vigil in front of the military recruiting stations at 21st & Broadway, a block from the 19th St BART station downtown Oakland. In San Francisco, the vigil is at Market & Ellis, under the large clock but check the bulletin or call first also.

Sign up for the discussion list to keep informed of all actions and decisions made outside the monthly meetings and to discuss issues & upcoming events, actions, plans with bay area codepinkers!

For further information, please see the rest of our website, email info@bayareacodepink.org, or call 510.524.2776.

"No Buying while Soldiers are Dying"
Action Continues throughout the Holiday Season

Every Saturday from now until the big "c", we will have our "No Buying" presence at various malls, shopping centers, department stores - everywhere people are flocking to ‘business as usual' in our bay area.

We will be there with banners, posters, 2-sided flyers Download: FRONT BACK pdf or FRONT BACK MS doc - turning folks away, asking them to support our soldiers, their families, and all Iraqis who are sacrificing and suffering, by choosing to not buy gifts and goodies this holiday season - or any day until our soldiers are returned home and war is ended.

We will be there with the Walk In Their Shoes (WITS) Download: pdf - MSdoc display and the Real Faces of War(pdf - MSdoc. We want these actions to be replicated and built upon for the next 30 days of holiday protests. Our overall theme is "Troops Home by the Holidays".

We need your support! Are you willing to endorse this action? Click here for more info

We ask endorsers to 1) spread the word about this action; and 2) take responsibility for at least one two-hour shift on Saturdays or any day of your choice. Contributions to help defray costs of this action would be appreciated but not a condition of endorsing.

Please email mzsam@bayareacodepink.org or call 510-524-2776 to endorse and/or to sign-up for a shift.

Together we WILL end war.

Glad Voter Pink Tea Party Dec 17th 4:00p.m.

In December of 2004, we furiously held a "Mad Voter Pink Tea Party". This year we are so thrilled to be able to hold a joyous "Glad Voter Pink Tea Party"!

You are invited to join us for this Tea Party so we can rejoice in recognition of the hard work that culminated in our recent victories in our Congress. We will present Pink Badges of Courage again for the many of us that continue stepping up to the plate to make this happen.

We will share great food and incredible entertainment, witness a CodePINK slideshow of our recent and previous actions, and come together to strategize how we will insure this Mandate for Peace we have pronounced in our country gets fulfilled as soon as possible.

Please email info@bayareacodepink.org or call 510-524-2776 to be part of this herstoric event!

Emergency Response Action Alert: NOON Monday, 3/30: Obama's "Plan" against Afghanistan

Emergency Response to Obama's "Plan" against Afghanistan
Noon, Monday, March 30th
Federal Reserve Building, 101 Market St., SF (between Spear & Main, Embarcadero BART)

We MUST plan for a HUGE response to Obama's 'Plan'. We will gather at the Federal Reserve noon Monday March 30th to say NO NO NO to military violence, YES YES YES to Humanitarian Aide!

Bring signs:
NO escalation against Afghanistan! Republicans=Iraq, Democrats=Afghanistan??? NO NO NO
  Send Humanitarian AIDE, NOT Troops
  DISARM, DISARM: TROOPS HOME NOW!
or just BE THERE!

Voting Obama into office is not enough – we MUST be out in the streets to tell him NO, we will NOT tolerate another war. For the first time in 8 years we have a much better chance to have our voices heard.

PLEASE get ready to ACT, plan to spend your lunch – and longer if possible – working hard to prevent escalation of war. We must realize the right war mongers are not sitting back, waiting to see.
