California National Guard Regional Working Groups

We now have working groups in the following locations:

  • Bay Area Regional Working Group is the coordinating point for the state campaign, also the spring board for the other regional groups. We meet the third Wednesday of the month at the East Bay CodePINK Office, 1248 Solano Ave, Albany 510-524-2776 and at various other times.
  • Santa Cruz County Working Group, SONG – Save Our National Guard, has formed to get the resolution passed in Santa Cruz & surrounding cities as well as on the county & federal levels
  • Sacramento Working Group – Davis codepink Natalie is working on getting the cities of Sacramento & Davie and the Assembly Members Wolk & Jones on board
  • Southern California Working Group is coordinating the campaign in the southern part of the state. To join the list serve, go to https://lists.riseup.net/www/subrequest/cp_socalnationalguardwg
  • Contra Costa County Working Group, a coalition of peace groups and codepink, are targeting 7 cities in Contra Costa & the Board of Supervisors
  • Peninsula Working Group, a coalition of Peace Action, Green Party, and Codepink, is forming to approach several south bay cities
  • Marin County Working Group, hopefully led by Next Generation, will target Joe Nation to get on board
  • Salinas Working Group with SAL & Peace Action will target Simon Salinas & the city councils of Salinas, Monterey, and Carmel

Regional working groups' specific areas of work:

  1. Cities Liaisons
    1. Beginning with but not limited to the 30 identified cities, recruit CodePinkers to form a CNG core group in their city
    2. Provide advocacy, tools, materials, support for core groups
    3. Keep track of progress
    4. Provide link/communication among core groups and w/cp working group
    5. Develop w/core groups strategies for obtaining council, boards, supervisors support for resolution

  2. Endorsers/volunteers Liaisons
    1. Identify & contact like-minded organizations, agencies, coalitions to get them on board for the cng campaign
    2. Write a letter for getting endorsers on-board
    3. Ask endorsers to pledge $100 and 3 volunteers to join a core working group - more if they can, less if they can't
    4. Put the pledge on-line at the bay area site for now, the national site when we can get the data as folks sign-up
    5. Develop system for keeping track of contact & response data
    6. Create email & phone list of endorsers and volunteers
    7. Develop & implement system of communication between and among endorsers

  3. Research & paper/computer work
    1. Provide research as needed
    2. Turn research in quarter page info sheets if relevant
    3. Develop materials for hand-outs, packets of info, etc. as needed
    4. Keep wg & core groups informed of research pages available
    5. Liaison with cp national site & bay area local site web mavens

  4. Petition coordinators
    1. Identify & connect w/potential petition gatherers
    2. Make a calendar & recruit petition gathers to cover street corners, BART stations, malls, etc.
    3. Keep track of petiton gatherers, signed petitions & collect them by...

  5. Legislators
    1. Make list of state congress people and senators
    2. Identify 'progressives' on list
    3. Provide core groups support for contacting, appointments with, and follow-up w/legislators
    4. Develop system for tracking legislator contacts, identifying potential & secured legislator support
    5. Develop w/core groups strategies for obtaining legislator support

  6. County Fairs Coordinators
    1. Identify possible fairs & research steps for obtaining tables
    2. Apply for table at county fairs
    3. Develop schedule for volunteers to table at fairs
    4. Put together tabling supplies & make sure volunteers have all the necessary materials, etc.

  7. Events Coordinators
    1. Identify & develop calendar of events we should be tabling/flyering & petitioning at
    2. Secure table space at event
    3. Develop list of potential volunteers & contact for events
    4. Follow-up on event results: petitions, new volunteer/cp lists, materials & merchandise

  8. National Guard Families and Individuals
    1. Identify potential national guard allies as well as veterans & military
    2. Recruit national guard allies for core groups & working groups
    3. Sign up to receive California National Guard weekly press release
    4. Develop & implement national guard & military recruiting form for tabling events
    5. Liaison with national guard, veteran, military allies

  9. Press & Publicity
    1. For future development...

  10. Fund-raising
    1. Ask for endorsement fee - sliding scale, more if you can, less if you can't
    2. Pass the hat
    3. Event planning
